RGB LED Controls from a Vintage TV Panel
I found an old wrecked tube TV in front of my house with these cool-looking slide potentiometers for brightness, contrast and volume. I needed proper lighting for my workbench, so I turned them into a controller for an LED strip, using three of the sliders to dim each color separately.
I had used a 555 for PWM control before and looked for good schematics to repurpose. The circuit is based on excellent instructions by Lb_20. I added a kill switch to the 12 V live wire and swapped in the resistors I found — the values don't quite match, but since they basically work as voltage dividers it doesn't really matter.
The electronics sit in a 3D-printed case with two mounting screws to attach it to my shelf, and the LED strips hide in aluminium tubes with milky glass for decent diffusion. Super happy with how it turned out.
